Our Physiotherapists are able to take Care Plan / EPC

**Please note that there will be an out-of-pocket expense associated with care plans. While Medicare provides $60.34 (from 1st July, 2024), the remaining amount will need to be paid by the patient**

What is EPC / Care Plan?

Enhanced Primary Care Plans (EPC Plans) represent a government effort enabling individuals with chronic injuries to avail professional services for managing their conditions. Medicare offers rebates to patients under GP management with an EPC Plan referral. Each patient can receive Medicare rebates for up to 5 allied health services per calendar year. Unused services within the year do not roll over to the next. The primary aim of physiotherapy for such patients is to furnish long-term management strategies for coping with chronic illnesses.

Osteopathy is a form of healthcare that focuses on the relationship between the structure and function of the body. It is based on the principle that the body has the innate ability to heal itself and maintain optimal health. Osteopathic practitioners, known as osteopaths or Doctors of Osteopathy (DOs), use a hands-on approach to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of health conditions.

The main goal of osteopathy is to promote overall health and well-being by addressing imbalances and dysfunctions within the body's musculoskeletal system. Osteopaths consider the body as a whole, recognizing that all systems and structures are interconnected. They assess not only the bones, muscles, and joints but also the nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.

Osteopathic treatment may involve a range of manual techniques, including:

  1. Soft Tissue Manipulation: Gentle techniques to release muscle tension, improve circulation, and enhance tissue mobility.
  2. Joint Mobilization: Gentle movements to restore joint mobility and reduce restrictions.
  3. Manipulation: Precise and controlled movements applied to joints to improve their function and relieve pain.
  4. Stretching and Resistance Techniques: Techniques to improve flexibility, restore balance, and strengthen the musculoskeletal system.
  5. Viscoelastic Techniques: Gentle rhythmic movements to promote relaxation, improve fluid flow, and restore tissue function.

The benefits of osteopathy can vary depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. Some potential benefits may include:

  1. Pain Relief: Osteopathic techniques can help alleviate acute and chronic pain, such as back pain, neck pain, joint pain, and headaches.
  2. Improved Range of Motion: By addressing restrictions and improving joint mobility, osteopathy may enhance flexibility and movement.
  3. Enhanced Healing: Osteopathy aims to optimize the body's self-healing mechanisms, promoting faster recovery from injuries or surgeries.
  4. Stress Reduction: Osteopathic treatment can help reduce physical and mental stress, promoting relaxation and overall well-being.
  5. Improved Function: By restoring balance and addressing dysfunctions, osteopathy can optimize the function of various body systems, such as the musculoskeletal, nervous, and circulatory systems.

It's important to note that osteopathy is a regulated profession, and the scope of practice may vary between countries. Osteopathic treatment is typically provided by qualified and licensed practitioners who have completed extensive training and education in osteopathic principles and techniques.

If you're considering osteopathy as a treatment option, it is advisable to consult with a licensed osteopath who can assess your specific needs and develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your condition and goals. what is the difference between Osteopathy & chiropractic medicine?

Osteopathy and chiropractic are two distinct healthcare professions with similarities and differences. Here are the key distinctions:

  1. Focus and Philosophy: Osteopathy takes a holistic approach, considering the body as an interconnected whole, aiming to restore balance and optimize overall health. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system, with an emphasis on spinal adjustments to correct misalignments.
  2. Training and Education: Osteopaths, known as Doctors of Osteopathy (DOs), undergo extensive training similar to medical doctors. They receive comprehensive education in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and various treatment modalities. Chiropractors earn the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree with a focus on spinal manipulation.
  3. Scope of Practice: Osteopathy encompasses a broader range of techniques, including soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilization, and stretching, to address musculoskeletal issues throughout the body. Chiropractic primarily focuses on spinal adjustments to correct subluxations and restore nerve function.
  4. Treatment Approach: Osteopathic treatments are varied and individualized, addressing specific patient needs. Osteopaths may use multiple techniques to promote overall health and improve musculoskeletal function. Chiropractic treatments primarily center around spinal adjustments.

While there are differences, there can also be overlap in the conditions treated and techniques used by osteopaths and chiropractors. Both professions aim to enhance health through manual therapy for musculoskeletal conditions. Consider personal preferences, individual needs, and availability of practitioners when choosing between osteopathy and chiropractic.

Consult licensed professionals in each field to discuss your concerns and determine the most suitable treatment approach for you.
